ABOUT ILLUSTRATION AT CARDIFF SCHOOL OF ART AND DESIGN (CSAD),

Illustration is a far-reaching, critical discipline for the 21st Century, connecting historically established practice with contemporary visual enquiry and technological experimentation. At Cardiff, we are pioneering ambitious developments in its teaching, practice and research.  Illustration speaks to all people on all levels, and even in desensitised, image-saturated arenas it can enchant, inform and inspire.

BA (Hons) Illustration is a unique, intense three-year course inspired by a vast potential for communication, and taught by enthusiastic and varied practitioners.  Digital and analogue processes sit side-by-side and the importance of teamwork, as well as individual excellence, is recognised.

Dedication to your subject, especially drawing, is important to your success as an illustrator. By exploring different methodologies, we ask what drawing is, how it can be used, and what makes ‘good’ drawing?  It does not necessarily involve a piece of paper and a pencil!

Graduates may choose to follow careers in  illustration and design professions, pursuing opportunities in publishing, animation, film, TV and the Web. By developing transferable planning, communication, and critical skills graduates may also find career pathways into other creative and influential roles: illustrators work as catalysts, fuelling conversations and collaborations of consequence.

Graduates also continue within academia, studying illustration at Masters level.

I am considering studying illustration at degree level- I love drawing and would love to be an illustrator. I am considering studying this a Loughborough university but after seeing your blog I think I may have made the wrong decision! You seem very dedicated and inspirational.
